Coaches
Coaches are happy to answer your questions but NOT DURING PRACTICE. Interruptions, even short ones, make it difficult to run an effective and safe practice. Coaches’ policies and decisions are based on experience in the sport and are made in close consultation with the team reps. As in all sports, coaches must make judgment decisions. The meet line-ups and the composition of the relay teams are solely up to the Head Coach’s discretion.
Coach Andrea began her career as a Manor Woods Terrapin in 1997 as a 5-year-old. As a 9-10, she was the lead leg of a record breaking 175 freestyle graduated relay team, a record that was broken in 2019 (sorry, Andrea!). She also has several times on Manor Woods' Top Ten List. Andrea has remained on the team since her time as a pre-teamer, moving all the way up the ranks to Junior Coach and eventually Head Coach, where she is entering her 12th season. Andrea graduated from Rockville High School and went on to study music at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. She is currently a music teacher at Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda.
This is Coach Joey's sixteenth year as a Manor Woods Terrapin. Joey first joined the team when he was eight years old, and has loved swimming with his teammates ever since. 2026 is Joey's 9th year as part of the coaching staff. Some of Joey's favorite memories have been participating in spirit activities, chalking driveways for divisionals, and celebrating Manor Woods' first perfect season in 2019. Joey just completed his third year at the University of Maryland College Park where he studies Communications.
Nikolai Kalinin is super excited to be a part of the coaching team for the third year. He has been a member of MWSDT since he was six. He enjoys working with swimmers to improve their technique and has provided lessons and private coaching the past two summers. During the school year he swims for RMSC, and Good Counsel Swim and Dive Team. He is a Red Cross certified lifeguard and works for Montgomery County. Nikolai is super excited for another Manor Woods season and his new role with the team.
2026 will be Lorelai’s third year coaching, and she is very excited! She’s been swimming since she was 4, and a Manor Woods Terrapin since 2018. Her favorite memories are spirit activities, team potlucks, and relay carnivals. Lorelai is a graduating senior from Washington Christian Academy, and is looking forward to a fun swim season!
This is Megan’s ninth year on the team and her first year coaching! She first joined the team when she was 6 and has loved being a part of it ever since. Her favorite memories have been Friday night spirit activities, relay carnivals, and 4th of July practices. During the school year, she swims on TIBU and on her high school team. Megan is a rising junior at Rockville High School and is super excited for the swim season!
Addie is thrilled for her first year of coaching the MW swim team! She has been on the swim team since she was seven years old, and she’s loved working with preteam and teaching lessons. Addie is a 2026 grad of Rockville High School and will be attending The College of William & Mary in the fall. She is super excited for this swim season!
A gift from the Pfaff family, Terry joined the team during the summer of 2017. He spends his summer mornings poolside, supporting the Manor Woods swimmers during practice. He never misses a home meet and even travels to away meets to support the mighty terrapins.
